The Ancient Kaiju Project

One of the more fun trends I’ve noticed in art over the last few years is the thriftstore painting movement. People all over the place are picking up old works of low value and adding to them, creating interesting mash-up paintings to amuse and delight! German artist Oliver Wetter created the Ancient Kaiju Project as a way to improve his artistic technique and have a little fun. He takes pre-existing classical landscape paintings and paints kajiu and other large things into the paintings in the style of the original. His work is very, very good, and part of what I love is that his self-stated mission is all about learning. That’s what art’s about!
