Next up in my cavalcade of paper companies I adore: the letterpress stylings of Sugar Paper!
Based out of Los Angeles, Sugar Paper is the creative baby of Chelsea Shukov and Jamie Grobecker. The fellow graphic designers fell in love with the elegance and simplicity of letterpress printing and formed the company in 2003. (Good heavens, that’s almost 11 years ago!)
For those who don’t know that much about letterpress, it’s a style of printing originating in the 15th century in which a reversed, raised surface is inked and then pressed into a sheet of paper. The girls at Sugar Paper use these antique presses and hand-feed the paper through. The result is printing you can run your fingers over, just like our mama’s mama’s mamas used to make. Simple and beautiful, I have my eye on a couple of pieces sold at one of Victoria’s retailers, Emporia.
